Windows XP shutting itself down

Ben

I connect to the Net using the internal modem of a Sony
Vaio.
After a few minutes I get a Windows dialogue box with a
count down clock telling me that Windows will shut down in
60 seconds. The reason given is some Remote Procedure Call
that caused a critical error.

I tried a different ISP and got the same result.

Any ideas?

You are being hit by a virus on the internet.
Enable the firewall on your internet connection then goto

windowsupdate and apply the fix for ms03-039.
Or as a better idea apply all of the critical updates.

Unless you have software that doesn't work properly after enabling the
firewall I would not turn it off.
