Hello,

I had Win98 on my desktop PC which I have just reformatted.
I have done the Hardware Compatibility Test and ran
Microsoft WinXP Upgrade Advisor. My system hardware
components and applications are OK with XP.

After successfully formatting the hard drive, I booted up
with my startup floppy disk (with Win XP CD in CD-Rom
drive).
At the A: prompt, I typed D: and hit enter (D is my CD_Rom
drive). At the D: prompt, I typed setup.exe and hit enter
but I keep getting the following error message:
"This program cannot be run in DOS mode."

Am I doing the wrong thing?
PLEASE TELL ME THE CORRECT WAY TO INSTALL WIN XP.

Thanks.

I don't have any of the drivers for the hardwares (CD-ROM,
modem, ethernet etc)
I want to reformat the hard drive and install Windows XP.
However, I'm not sure if these hardwares will work with
Win XP and how to get the drivers if they do. I may also
not be able to identify the model names of all the devices
(to look for drivers)

Please kindly give me some information on how to proceed.

Thanks,
