| SP3 has just surfaced on my MS Auto Updates page as a 'recommended'.
| I presume this is a 'final' and not a beta and so should be OK to install.
| Thanks, Brett

Might want to read this (lots of others like it out there)

Or have a nice long look around microsoft.public.windowsupdate then judge
for yourself.
Microsoft calls it 'final' but then you know how they are... ;-)
There's really no rush. Either way I'd have a good working image of your
present drive to fall back on.
That said I did install it on one test machine (an old Dell Dimension 8200)
which went fine. I haven't noticed any difference in the function of the
computer. My laptop which I use for actual work I'm going to wait on until
it (sp3) is a requirement to get further updates. That is if the laptop is
still even in service by then.
I have an XP MCE 2005 computer in the basement that does mostly DVR and
Internet duty. It streams to Media Center Extenders around the house has
multiple internal and external drives for recorded content and is a fairly
advanced setup. It works perfectly. It's unlikely I will ever put SP3 on
that machine. I haven't installed MCE RU2 on that computer either as it
seemed to have little benefit (for my setup) and caused a lot of people DRM
problems they weren't having prior. Media Center tends to break rather
easily when messed with and is difficult to set right once done.
