Windows XP Service Pack 1 Installation

In response to the recent rash of viruses/bugs/worms, I
attempted to install Windows critical updates but could
not get past "Service Pack 1". I have Windows XP home
edition installed but get the message "wrong version"???

Wolud appreciate any help.
