Installed XP service pack 1 on my PC and it crashed it.
I tried to restart with the last known good version but
it didn't work. Tried to restart in safe mode but it
didn't work. Tryed to restart in every other option and
they all appear to do the same thing. How can I restore
or restart. This was a critical update. Critical to who
service pack 1 should come with a warning. My kids need
this computer for home work. any help would be
appreciated

I tried your suggestions and looked at the links you
sent. I found my copy of XP but my computer wont reboot
with it. Just keeps trying the same way over and over
again. Got any other ideas I could try?

Did you change the settings in BIOS for boot order? You need to make the
CDrom drive the first choice.

And when booting from the XP-CD, there usually comes reminder to "Press any
key to boot from CD.." somewhere low on screen...
It's there for about 2sec...

Sharon,

My BIOS was already set to boot the CD first. Got any
other suggestions. Getting desperate. Thanks for taking
the time to help

Gary, did you see Thomas' suggestion? His system apparently places the
"press a key" message low on his screen. My old system used to show this
high on the screen. My current system doesn't show anything, it just boots
from a bootable CD if one is present. I don't know what is "normal" for
your system. You may need to refer to your system manual to review the CD
boot procedure it uses.

If still having trouble booting from the CD, take a look at the XP CD. Very
*carefully* clean fingerprints and smudges. Consider using a lens cleaning
kit on the CDrom drive.

If no go on booting from CD, read the section on this page about using a
boot disk (or set of boot disks) to run XP's setup program. There are
several options discussed:

Also, below are links to two sites with good writeups about performing a
Repair Install. Harry's site has directions and screen shots of everything
that will appear on the monitor along the way. Michael's site is a concise
set of instructions that are handy to print out and have on hand during the
install.
