From day one my new computer with xp has run slower than
smoke off you know what. Is this the software or the
computer, I have tried everything and nothing works even
taking all the programs off the computer didn't help it
just lags from scrren to screen or from program to
program. I think i'm going to see just how manny mice
are really passing papers in this box!

Alex,

Try an online diagnostic:

Download LSP-Fix from <http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>.

Now check for, and remove, spyware. Get HijackThis
<http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155> and Spybot S&D
<http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download>.
1) Install and run Spybot. First update it ("Search for updates"), then run a
scan ("Check for problems"). Trust Spybot, and make all recommended deletions.
2) Install and run HijackThis. Do NOT make any changes immediately. Save the
Log.
3) Have your HJT log interpreted by experts at one or more of the following
forums (and post it here):
<http://forums.tomcoyote.org/>
<http://63.247.79.145/~coyote/forums/>
<http://www.wilderssecurity.com/>
<http://forums.net-integration.net/>
<http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/>

If removal of any spyware affects your ability to access the internet (some
spyware builds itself into the network software, and its removal may damage your
network), run LSP-Fix.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Hi, Alex.

If your "new computer with xp" has run slowly "from day one", you should
take it back to where you bought it!

In the meantime, if you tell us the make and model of the computer, somebody
here might recognize it and have some suggestions. We can't even begin to
help because you didn't tell us what CPU it has, how much RAM, or even how
slow is slow. You're sitting there looking at the computer, but we can't
see it at all. :^{

If a new computer runs slowly 'from day one' it may be due to the way the
OEM configured the system at the factory.

Some, but certainly not all, OEMs ship their systems with many applications
starting with Windows. This is likely due to marketing agreements with the
application vendors. The solution here is for the user to decide whether all
those startup applications are really necessary.

Some, but certainly not all, OEMs ship their systems with all features of
the included applications turned on. This also tends to slow a computer.
This may be done to show off a program's features to users who otherwise
wouldn't know about them. Here the solution is for the user to decide which
application features are desired and which are not.

Also, there are some computers that are, in fact, slow because they barely
meet the requirements for the software and hardware they contain.
