Windows XP "Reminder for Xx date box" popping up

Ok, this is so irritating!

I have NO idea why after months of using XP I'm getting this. I've ran a
Symantec and Nortons scan and both say we're "clean" of viruses etc.

However, I am getting a (I"ll use todays date for example)
windows pop up box occasionally (at least 3 times a day) and it has NO "X",
"-" or any buttons to close it out. I have to go to Task Mgr to end program
ALWAYS.

This box at the top in the blue says:

Windows REMINDER for Sunday, September 19, 2004
but the box says "cannot be displayed" inside it..like the page cannot be
displayed on a web site..
but there is no www.xxxxx box or anything.

Just a plain pop up, no address bar, no close out X's or minimizing box etc.
Only way to get rid of it is to go to Task Mgr.

Please help!

TIA!

Hi,

Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok. Go to the startup tab, look for
a line that loads this reminder. It's probably some stupid nagging program
that reminds you to take a break. They aren't spyware or viruses (hence
their not being detected as such), but are sometimes included in
preinstalled machines.

Thank you Mr. Rogers,

If you would be so kind; another question in regards to your response.

I did what you stated, however not knowing what most of these lines are
referring to; I'm not sure what to disable and what to not.

Here are a few I thought about:

Remote Procedure Call (??)
System Event Notification
PowerReg. Schedule

Any insight? TIA!

Hi,

Click start/run, type msinfo32 and click ok. Expand the software environment
and click on the startup programs. Click edit/select all/edit/copy, then
open a reply to this post. Click in the message text area, then hit ctrl+v
to paste the startup list.

*whew* I hope you can make some sense out of this! <g>

Thanks! I just thought it made more sense to ask you all instead of going
around editing the startup programs etc!

I also need to take out MSN Msgr from prompting me to upgrade etc, but thats
after I take care of this issue. One issue at a time!

Thanks again!

Hi,

Disable these:

All Users HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
TV Now c:\program files\hpq\notebook utilities\tvnow.exe /rk

None are necessary to normal operation. See if this relieves the problem.

Hi Rick;

Ok, unfortunately no, this did not work. I'm not sure what else to do! This
is sooo irritating!

Thanks!
Mar

Hi,

Ok, so lets take a different approach: Run msconfig as before, this time on
the general tab click the diagnostic mode. Click apply/ok and reboot. Now
does it still happen? If not, then start reenabling startup lines (use
selective startup mode) a few at a time until it does. This should allow you
to isolate which application is causing it.

Hi there again;

I did as you asked; it looks like its the " Load System Services" one. Once
I loaded that back, it started again.
Where do we go from here and THANK YOU for your help! You've been most
patient with my issue!

Mar

Hi,

Ok, now load the system services, but go to the services tab and click the
box to hide all non-microsoft ones, then uncheck the remaining ones. Restart
now.

Hi Rick; I think I found something!
(I havent had a chance to do what you said to do quite yet..I wanted to post
this first)

When I go to the ctrl, alt, delete and bring up the task mgr box I usually
just click "end program" and instead I right clicked it and it brought up "go
to process" so I did and here is what it took me to (three times I did it)

HPSdpApp.exe and its memory useage is: 12,276 K
I typed it EXACTLY as it shown on my screen (the application name that is)

Now I'm curious as to what this application refers to/what it is. do you
have any idea? Also; now that we've figured out what application it is; how
do I stop it?

Thanks! I SURE HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
