Windows XP reinstall/repair problem

Julie

Hi
Running XP Professional sp2 pre-installed on PC. Had a few glitches so
decided to reinstall over the top (not a clean install). Initially this
would not work as I needed a network driver, eventually solved that but
could only get it to install by skipping several files....including and
starting with a well-known issue (staxmem.dl??). About 20 files were
skipped.
The system appears to be working but I am finding a few oddities.

Any thoughts on what I should do to get all the files back? I might upgarde
to Vista at some point but would prefer XP to be in best shape first.

Thanks
Julie

Manufacturer/Make/Model of PC?
What type of disk did you use to reinstall XP, OEM Recovery/Restore or Retail?
What are the few oddities details?

Hi

I used the manufacturers OEM recovery/restore disk.

The oddities include not having an icon anywhere for IE....it works Ok just
won't give me an icon. Actually many other things that did not start
properly are now OK after a few restarts.
|What happens to all those files that did not load though? Presumably they
have a function.
Thanks Julie

For the IE icon see if this helps:
Right click on the Desktop.
Click Properties > Desktop tab > Customize Desktop button.
Select each check box for Desktop Icons.
Click Ok > Apply > Ok.

Mesh, a well renowned company in UK. They build them to order so no model
name, but it was a high spec PC 2 years ago. Speakers won't work either now!
Sound blaster audigy professional and 7.1 speakers. Grrrrr!

How do I repair Windows XP using the recovery CD?
http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=RUNTIME_OLD_SUPPORT_FAQS_SOFTWARE
It is mentioned:
<quote>
After the repair has completed you will need to reinstall the drivers for your
motherboard from the motherboard driver CD supplied with the PC, the video card
drivers and the sound card drivers. All other drivers and software should survive the
repair intact.

Yes, but I get the problems identified. MESH has given me 3 different
solutions now!
