My hard drive has a problem booting (software corrupted).
I want to recover the files contained in Documentsand Settings, including
e-mails, and documents. The problem is those folders are protected. How can i
access the files?

"Protected" how? If you used encryption (EFS - not available on Home if
that helps you know whether you did this or not), then post back.
Otherwise, all you need to do is take ownership of the files.
