For over a year I have been able to turn on my computer
and it goes right into Windows. Now I am either faced
with a Welcome Screen or if I tell the computer to avoid
the Welcome Screen I am still faced with a solicitation
of a Password at which I simply click OK and go on into
Windows.

What has changed? I didn't use to have to do anything
and my computer would go right into Windows. Did I do
this or was it one of the automatic updates that comes to
my computer from Microsoft? Is there a way to get it
back to the way I had it for a year, that is, my computer
go right into Windows without a Welcome Scree or a Logon
password dialogue box?

Easy Alternative:

Download and install TweakUI:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP (TweakUI)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, go to Start > Programs > PowerToys for Windows XP >
TweakUI. Expand "Logon", click on "Autologon" and place a check
next to "Log on automatically at system startup", then click "apply".
