I have a single Windows XP Professional computer on my
Windows NT 4.0 domain. I have integrated many Windows
2000 Professional computers, and a Windows 2000 Advanced
Server as a member server, into this domain previously.
The Windows XP Professional computer, however, is causing
me a bit of grief. I successfully joined the computer the
domain, and it logs in just fine. However, every 12
minutes I get a 8003 error on my PDC that tells me the
Windows XP Professional computer thinks it is the master
browser and it is forcing an election. Simultaneously, I
get a 1054 error on the Windows XP Professional computer
every 12 minutes that tells me the XP computer can't find
a domain controller.
I followed the steps in KB articles Q310461, Q180094 and
Q314108. I am running WINS and DNS on my network and all
my computers use static IP addresses (no DHCP). The
Windows XP computer is using the internal DNS servers, it
has a valid IP address, subnet mask and gateway, it has
registered in WINS, it browses the network and internet
without issue and logs on to the domain without issue. It
has been updated with all recommended and critical updates
including Windows XP Service Pack 1. I even created an
LMHOSTS file and #PRE loaded the PDC.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Prent Patrick
