These two are seemingly incompatible although the new
modem is labeled as XP compatible.
I have the inability to set up my Internet Account
Connection Information Properly. I was told by COMPUSA
(where I bought the modem) that this was a common problem.
I re-installed Windows XP to no avail. I got as far as
page 2 of three in the setup (user name and password used
to log on the ISP (RCN in this case-formerly EROLS, then
when I type in the name I want to name the connection, a
dialog box opens that reads, "_______ is not a valid name.
The entry name must contain at least one character that is
not a space and cannot begin with a period. Choose a
different name." The issue is, even after complying with
this rule, step 3 of 3 doesn't accept anything as a valid
connection name. Therefore, at this present time, I cannot
connect. Please help ASAP....EC

The US Robotics is by far the easiest modem to setup that I have ever
encountered. What you are describing isn't the modem setup but the
install for your ISP dialer software.

BTW, the people at CompUSA may not have been wrong, but it has nothing
to do with the modem.

Some ISP's have a limit on maximum number of characters in a sign-on
name. Have you checked that?

My experience in the past has been to throw away the cd from the ISP and
setup everything manually. I had much better results, far fewer
headaches, and a better connection.
