Let's say you have PC1 and PC2. In order for you to connect to PC1 from PC2 you have to you have to set up a user account with a password on PC1 that matches the same user account you log on to on the PC2 machine. You may have been bypassing log on routines on both machines, but they still have user accounts. Go to your machines and give your user accounts new passwords and make sure that all the users are created on both machines. When you run: \\<computer name> and get prompted for a name and password, use the ones you updated, and, or just created. If you want to connect from 2 to 1 therefore, you have to use the user account you log on to PC1 to connect to PC2 and vice versa. User accounts can be accessed in the control panel UserAccounts applet, or by right clicking on My Computer (icon), select Manage and to double click on the Users folder and right clicking on the individual user, to the right, and choosing set password for the user. If the user accounts are not
"Administrator" accounts you cannot make the changes unless you log on as "Administrator". You should at least have the password listed someplace around your house or office so you can log on. This should get you up and running.
