I have a compaq presario notebook which came with software.

I reformated this and installed wiht windows xp
professional.

I have a cd burner/cd drive which is Matshita ujda310 and
I cannot use this in a backup. (using the built-in
microsoft backup)

Also, I cannot use the Roxio software; no matter how many
updates I have used.

The hard drive "D" does not seem to be recognized in this
mode. However, if I copy files to this drive, I can copy
my files and do a backup this way.

Any suggestions how I can gat a backup system to work?

Thanks,

Alan

.
Alan, you should check the hardware compatibility list.
Sometimes devices stop working after upgrades, for ex. my
Creative DVD-RAM drive a 3 yr old unit, will only work
after I pay $50 for software upgrades from Softarch.com,
1st s/w was for 95 free, then Win98 $50, then Win2K $50
MORE, now with Winxp pro it's $35 more which I haven't
paid yet but probably will, what's the use of having the
H/W if you can't use it? You need a driver that will make
Winxp able to install your unit, at least this is my
guess. Good luck.
