System Specs:
Sapphire Radeon 9600 256 MB DDR Video Card, AGP 8x
2.80E ghz processor (1mb cache) - retail box/fan
Soyo Dragon Plus 2 Motherboard
1 gig ram (Single module)
Audigy 2 LZ sound card
Maxtor 120 gig hard disk, SATA
Memorex DVD-ROM drive
350w power supply

4 80mm fans (2 on back, 1 on side case, 1 on top)

I have 2 of these systems, the only difference is that in
the second one I have:

Audigy 2 sound card
Pioneer trayless DVD-ROM
Generic CDRW

otherwise, these pc's are duplicates in every way
componentwise.

All parts are new. Some have been interchanged between
systems, but no issues seemed to follow.

The first system is mysteriously rebooting.

I have unchecked the restart system under the System and
Advanced tab.
I have gone into Remote Call Procedure Service and
set 'Take no action' on all 3 options.

The system continues to reboot and does not respond on
login with any kind of error message or send microsoft
info box. It's like it doesn't even recognize it reboots.

Temps show: box 70 (chasis 25, cpu 45) degrees on average.
Done: norton systemworks for registry, disk doctor,
scandisk, defragment. Checked for blaster worm - nada.

Second box runs hotter on average and is fine.

I am at a loss. Any suggestions?

It's not the same symptom I don't believe. It could work
half an hour and reboot, or 5 minutes and reboot or go 3
hours and reboot.

In any event, we ran the mblaster checker, etc. and had
norton loaded before it was internet capable. In all ways
it comes up clean.

These kind of spontaneous reboots with no Even log entries are related
to CPU, RAM, heat, power supply. Since the two systems are identical, I
would first swap RAM modules and see it the problem transfers to the
second computer. With all of the fans, I will guess that heat is not an
issue. Power supply could also be a problem. 350W looks good, but PS
ratings are sometimes just wild numbers. With all the equipment 350W
might not be enough or the PS on that one computer is breaking down. Is
there any tracking of the shutdowns with activity? You might also
reseat all of the cards, cables and plugs, just in case there is a fatal
connection problem.

Q

Tried changing out the power supply with a known good
500w - still rebooted.
Swapped RAM - still rebooted

Removed sound card - no reboots after 30 minutes, but
still testing and will update tomorrow.

Both pc's are running at about 45 degrees on the
processor.

If it still reboots, will swap cpu's tomorrow.
