I just upgraded my windows to XP from ME. After the upgrade I now have no
sound coming from my speakers. How do I correct this problem? I'm thinking
its a driver problem. Any help is appreciated.
First, head into Device Manager - Control Panel > System > Hardware tab >
Device Manager.
Then, check to see whether your sound card is listed. It probably will be,
but generically rather than as your particular model.
If that's the case, hop online and download the latest driver from the
manufacturer's web site. Extract these files to a folder on your hard drive.
Finally, open the properties of the generic sound card in Device Manager,
click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver. When prompted, browse to
the folder where the downloaded driver files are located, and let the wizard
to its thing.
The biggest issue will be finding the correct drivers. If you're not sure of
the sound card's make and model, you may need to "pop the hood" to find a
make and model number.
Good luck,
Dan
