Did you connect any cables to the headers on the USB for that port? Did
you check that you oriented the connector correctly (i.e., that it isn't
backwards)? Is the USB controller enabled in your BIOS?

Did you install the chipset drivers that are on the CD that came
with your motherboard?

Any help with this?

The indications are that of a hardware problem, specifically
the motherboard. It is not a good sign for hardware that is
built into the motherboard to not show up in bios setup and
then confirmed by the Windows XP operating system.

If the motherboard or computer is still under warranty, then
the builder should review and fix the problem...at its expense.

When i go into the bios, go to the USB part.. its all blank!
Then look for motherboard jumpers to enable-disable USB and or USB2
ports. (It does have ports either on the motherboard or off of
headers, I presume?)

I kinda have the same problem.

I'm running winxp pro on P4 3.0GHz on an ASUS motherboard. I had t
reformat my PC recently because of a nasty virus and when it wa
finished I did not have any more active USB ports.

I tried uninstalling then re-installing it back. It went on kind
smoothly until the last dialog box telling me that the usb ports coul
not be installed properly.

Please let me know if there is something I could do about it

Okay, I figured this all out.. basically instead of doing a bios update to
the latest version, i did a bioos upgrade to a downgrade...previous version,
and everything works now :() all the usb ports :D
