Could someone please explain to me why I paid $75 extra
when I bought my computer to get Windows XP professional
specifically so that I could network with other
computers, while my roommates just got XP home, and yet
my computer has major issues recognizing the network
while their computers have no problems? I'm really
frustrated with Microsoft because I am constantly having
problems when I try to use the network, whereas my
roommates can access it very easily.

XP Pro is the better package and you are better off for having it. At
this point, suggest you not worry about that.

Home and Pro with both network. Pro allows you to "join a domain" which
is different than just attaching to a network.

The problems you are having are surely related to simple configuration
flaws, or perhaps your network card (NIC) is flawed. It's nothing to
with Microsoft as XP Pro works. You don't provide enough information
here to allow any assistance.

As you mention "roommate" and networking, I'm going to assume that you
are at a university or college, and that there are resources therefore
available to you to assist you. Suggest you get local assistance. Or
find a "guru" down the hall who can help.
