This has affected 2 systems in exactly the same way. Both machines were
working fine one day but the next time they were used they started up fine
and got to the logon screen. The mouse is working fine but as soon as the
keyboard is touched the systems freeze (including the mouse), leaving only a
switch off as an option. The same happens in Safe Mode. Both machines have
the free AVG anti-spam software installed (free version 7.5) which was
originally though of as the problem, but following the fix on the AVG site
had no affect.

has anyone else experienced this?

yes i have this same problem with a dell optiplex 270. I'm betting on memory
problems or incorrect driver installed.

Is your problem exactly the same as this? Was the PC working OK one day and
then would not start the next? If so, are you also running AVG software?

Why haven't you updated to AVG 8.00 (Free) Anti-Virus?

What are your anti-spyware arrangements?

Have you tried Last Known Good Configuration?

What do you have by way of a Windows XP CD?

What is the computer make and model?

Hope this helps.

Hi Gerry

Had not updated to Ver 8.0 as until I went to the AVG site looking for cure
I was not aware of a newer version.

Yes I've tried the Last know Good Configuration but with no success

I have the Windows XP CDs from which the machines were built.

Both are Dell machines, Dimension 800 and laptop is Inspiron 17..
