My Windows XP Pro won't allow me to set printer
properties. The only options it gives is Front to Back,
Back to Front and Landscape, but no matter what is checked
it prints last page first. I need to be able to specify
forward, backward, even pages, odd pages, booklet, etc. as
I was able to do under Windows95. Windows Help suggests
these options are available, but doesn't tell me how to get
them.
How can I get control of my own printer?

Whatever options are available are entirely the function of the drivers.
Drivers are the responsibility of the device manufacturer. You need to go
to the printer manufacturer's web site and check for the latest drivers. If
that doesn't give you the results you seek, you need to contact the printer
manufacturer's tech support.

Windows XP is compatible with the printing you seek assuming the drivers
support and enable it.

Michael, I disagree. If I load the driver that I used with
Windows95 and which offered all the printer preferences I
have enjoyed over the years, XP Pro denies me those
options. It give me the same preference screen I get with
the driver included with the operating system.
Windows Help tells us we need Printer Permissions and
another permission (I forget its name) to set printer
preferences, but doesn't tell us how to get the permission.
Since I am the only user (account) I am the system
administrator, but the rest of the privileges don't seem to
have come with that lofty title.

It has to be a driver compatible with XP. This is likely one of the reasons
why it's having a problem with permissions. If you are the only user on
your system and there's only one user account and that account is an
administrator account, this very much sounds like a driver issue. This
driver appears to be incompatible with XP. This driver is Windows 95
compatible and permissions and file ownership were not an issue in Windows
95 so the driver could not be written to anticipate or accommodate the
higher level of security in XP.

Has this ever worked on XP? If yes, did you recently reinstall XP or
install it over itself because, under those circumstances, you would lose
file ownership and permissions. You would get around that my removing the
printer software and reinstalling but you have not indicated that this falls
into that category.
