Just switched my Windows XP Pro pc's (3) from a workgroup (MYHOME) to a
domain (OUR) on a windows 2003 R2 Standard server

I was able to ping the server by dns name from my pc

Today I tried and it brought up an external ip address
On the other two pc's it was working

I ran a tracert and it took me to somewhere unknown to me and my ISP which I
called

I then used ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns

Now it works.

What can cause that to happen

I hope I do not have to flush and register alot

Any ideas thanks

Tom

My guess is that you have DNS set incorrectly. The server must only look to
itself for DNS with forward lookup zones for Internet access. The
workstations must only look to the server for DNS.
