We have recently purchased 20 tablet PC's running Windows
XP Professional.

These computers will spend most time with homeworkers.

Occasionally users will need to connect to our network and
log into a domain.

We have one computer which appears to allow you to log
into our domain, when the computer is not physically
connected to the network, i.e. there is no domain
controller present.

Can anyone explain this?

Hi -

Windows XP will allow domain users to log on to a machine
using cached credentials if a domain controller is not
available. I believe the default is three cached logons.

You can alter the number of cached logons or disable this
feature altogether with either a local machine or domain
policy.
