paid over $300 for this $%^% and I have spend the last 6 hours trying
to get it to boot and all it does is Inspect hardware.. what is the
problem? PC is brand new completely, from new monitors, hard drives,
Memory, video card, etc????? And yes Internet Connection is attached
for whatever darn activation it needs!!!

Disconnect as much hardware as you can (leave mouse, hard drive, CD, and keyboard). Reconnect after installing.

Also look at the power supply. If you have a lot of equipment attached
to the computer and a power supply that cannot handle the load then that
could be why the computer hangs during the inspection.

Another thing to check is the memory. Create a boot disk for a memory
checker http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp (free) and run that.
Memory can be bad even if it is new and a bad address can cause havoc.

Have you verified that all of your PC's hardware components are
capable of supporting WinXP? This information will be found at the PC's
manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Windows Catalog:

That won't matter until after the installation is complete. In fact,
connecting to the Internet *before* you've applied SP2, made sure that
the firewall is enabled, and installed a good, up-to-date antivirus
application is strongly contra-indicated.
