Svchost acts as an itermediary for applications. While the process lists as
svchost, the underlying process could be any program installed on your
system. This program could be wanted (but badly behaving) or it could be a
virus.

Use Start> MSCONFIG to disable startup programs in an effort to determine
if one of these is the cause of the startup problem.

Use anti-spyware software (AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, etc) to
detect adware or spyware that may have made its way onto your computer.

Scan the system with an antivirus program that has current virus
definitions. Should probably do this first because if there is a virus or
worm, you will want to get it cleaned up immediately. If ignored, they can
cause extensive damage to your files.
