My Problem: The pc will not join a domain. It can not
find the domain. The domain settings are correct because
I can join the domain with my laptop. The error message is
that it can not find the domain.

HP/COMPAQ, thinking that I have W xp Home told me to
disable timeouts for idle sessions. I told them that I had
Windows xp Pro and asked whether the same applies.

I understand from your mail that you have installed
Windows XP Professional and now have problems connecting
the system to the domain. The Presario you have is shipped
with Windows XP Home and in case you have installed a
retail version, Compaq does not support retail version
of any operating system due to licensing problems with
Microsoft.I suggest you revert back to factory settings.

Is HP/COMPAQ providing a platform (Presario 5203rsh)that
will only support the installed OS...forever?

What they are saying is...."We sent it to you with XP Home. You changed it
and now you want our help. We don't do that."

Whenever I buy a new PC, the first thing I do is format the hard drive and
install whatever OS I want to it. I do understand though, that if I have any
kind of OS issue after that, the company I bought the PC from won't support
any software issues/questions that come up.
