I am trying to repair a windows xp pc and have installed new mobo + new
psu because these were faulty? so i thought. The same problem still
exsists i.e.no bootup nothing!. There is a voltage off sorts from the
new psu but pc will still not boot up, no power to lights or anything
not even fan on mobo. Any help out there would be very much appreciated
Cheers Jerry

Is it possible the case on/off switrch went bad? That could be why nothing
appears to be happening.

JerryZap,

The best way to test for a bad switch is to unplug the jumpers that connect
the switch to the motherboard. Then with a fine flat head screwdriver
connect the circuit between the 2 power pins. If it fires up then the switch
has gone out.

Have you also checked the new power supply to make sure it is set to the
right voltage? I have seen some brand new power supplies set to european
voltage.

One final thought, but maybe not likely is that it may be grounding out on
the case. You can test for that by taking the MB out of the case and laying
it on a static bag. Hook up the power supply and then jump it (see first
paragraph) If that works, then a screw may be on wrong, etc. That is a
little harder to troubleshoot. I have seen modem cards cause this.

Hope this helps.
