Windows xp printer problem

i'm trying to connect to a shared printer connected to an ethernet hub. Windows xp doesn't find the printer (although it does find the 4 macs on the network). I try to connect using http://ip.address/.printer but it asks me for a password (there isn't one) and won't accept anything. Any idea's??
