I recently installed Windows XP, two problems:

I have a C:drive and a D: virtual drive

I cannot install my Turbotax...not enough room on C:
but I can't move any files out of C: they are "being used"

how to move files?

is there a way to increase partition size of C;?

System files and most program files can NOT be moved by a simple copy. Or,
if they are moved, then things will not work correctly.

Here are a few things you can try:

1. Use the disk cleanup option of XP to remove temporary files. Also use
the advanced option to remove all except the last system restore point. By
the way, if you have Norton Utilities, or anything similar, remember to
manually empty the protected recycle bin after the disk cleanup.

2. Erase or compress (i.e., ZIP) user files, that is those that you created
or downloaded, things like DOC, XLS, TXT, BMP. Do not try to compress JPG,
as they are already compressed.

3. Move the windows swap file to D:\, via MyComputer, properties, advanced,
performance, advanced, virtual memory. Set the pagefile to zero (max=min)
on C:\ and something like 512Meg (max=min) on D:\. Pick a larger pagefile,
if you experience out of memory errors. You must reboot for these changes
in pagefiles to happen.

4. Get a program like parition Magic (version 8), whihc can resize adjacent
partitions, without data lose.

5. Finally, think about a larger hard drive. They are fairly cheap, and
most PC shops can install and transfer your data (C: to new C:, D: to new
D:) for little additional cost. You might even want to have a few extra
paritions (E: and F:) if you get a sufficiently large drive.

Ted, Bob has some good suggestions for you, but at less than $1/gb on sale,
I would go for #5, buy a larger hard disk.

Whatever solution you wind up with, I hope you send a complaint to the
publisher of Turbotax. Well - written applications ask which drive to
install on.

The assumption that a user has just one hard drive, and that it's
always C:, hasn't been valid for at least ten years.
