Windows xp - Outlook express

How do I get windows and Outlook express to work together. At the moment on
trying to email a doc, picture or answer thru windows a noticr comes up
asking to choose a profile (what is a profile?) then another message comes up
saying"The MAPI spooler could not be started. Close and then restart all
Mail-enabled applications. MAPI 1.0
(000004CT). I have no idea what this is all about.
