Assuming that you don't mean differences like Home vs. Professional, Media
Center, or Tablet Edition, there has only been one version.

There have been two Service Packs released, but SP2 has been out long enough
that almost certainly any copy you buy will come with SP2. Worst case, if
you bought a copy without SP2, you can download SP2 for free from Microsoft
or ask Microsoft to mail you a free SP2 CD.

It's a current version-- the version that supports 64-bit processors. You
can't use it if you don't have a 64-bit processor, and since you don't know
about it, it's highly likely that yours is a 32-bit processor, not a 64-bit
one.

You're assuming that those two are the same. I question that
assumption. However...

As for latest, Windows XP home or pro) with SP2 is the latest.

Whichever version of XP you buy, there will already have been updates
since the disc was pressed. Windows will automatically inform you of
these and manage their downloading and installation.
