I recieved Windows XP with my laptop, but did not get the office element of

need it for school.

XP is an operating system and has no "office element". You need to get
and install a separate program that will meet your needs. Examples are
Microsoft Office and Corel for commercial programs, OpenOffice for a
free office suite.

Since you are a student you should check with your school as to its
requirements.

Microsoft has an Academic Version of Office which is sold at a much reduced
price to students. Check with a software seller or your school bookstore to
see if they have it. Or you can use the free OpenOffice Suite which is a
large download but available from here http://www.openoffice.org/

There is no "office element" to Windows XP. Neither the Microsoft
Office application suite, nor any of its individual component
applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.), have
_ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating system. They are, and
always have been, separate applications, that must be purchased and
installed separately.

Whichever one best suits *your* needs, about which we know nothing.

I am a student and
need it for school.

Then you should ask the school what product they recommend, so that
your work is compatible with the school's preferred productivity suite.
