Steven Davison

I'm a relative newbie to all things NT, and have been
working on manadatory profiles to stop 1300 or so local
users on our new XP machines that we are now buying.(@
around 5mb a time for a basic profile, thats abuot 6gb we
can' afford!)

We've never had really thing to do with profiles or group
policies her, as we have used Win98Se and Fortres 101
securing systems dow, to stop our students messing them
up for us (which they still manage to do)

Could anyone direct me to a HowTo: or similar on using
and applying poledit policies.

if you can email me this, please do, if you prefer not
to, i'll check up on here :)

many thanks

Hello, Steven -

In Windows XP what you're looking for is called a Group
Policy Editor and can be found by hitting Start --> Run
and typing "gpedit.msc" (without quotes) in the box and
then clicking "OK". It can also be found under Control
Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Local Security Policy.

I don't know what your network looks like, but if it's
running NT/Win2k/Windoes Server 2003 may I suggest
applying domain policies instead of local machine
policies? Perhaps centralized administration of network
policies would be appealing to you.

Searching Microsoft's Knowledge Base at

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=FH;EN-
US;KBHOWTO

for "domain policy" should yield all kinds of useful
information.

good luxk -
