Ok, well about a week ago I installed Windows XP on my
AMD Athlon 700mz comp thats about 3 1/2 years old. I
tried to install my old video card which was a GeForce 4
MX420 64mb video card. Didnt register or recognize it.
Just recognized a new VGA Controller. So I thought my
card was fried b/c it wasnt working to well before that.
Went out and bought a Geforce FX 5200 128mb card and it
did the same thing. Yesterday I finaly got it to
recognize the card. After about 30 sec. my screen turned
black with a spacer flashing in the upper left corner.
It then blinked and went back to the black screen again.
After rebooting a few times and it doing the same thing i
went into safe mode and disabled the card so I could get
back on my regular OS. A friend told me my motherboard
might be outdated and need sto be replaced but i dont see
how that would matter b/c the GF4 worked before I
installed Win XP. Any sugestions would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure that you are install nVidia's drivers and NOT
the ones included in XP. Even though XP's drivers should
work fine the makers drivers are almost always better.

if that doesnt work it kind of sounds like your AGP slot
is bad, i'm not really sure though b/c u said it work fine
before. i would just make u that you have the right
drivers install form nVidia.

Yeah I know I have the right drivers. Im sure its not
the APG slot b/c it worked fine before i installed XP.
Someone said it might be because of the onboard video but
im having trouble finding it in my device manager.

Onboard video can be disabled in your BIOS.
