I am having problems with Windows XP not loading on my computer. I had some spyware that I was trying to get off and then all heck broke lose. The computer will not go into Safe Mode at all. I have gotten into the recovery console but have no idea what commands to type after the 'C' prompt. I don't want to lose any data if possible. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Configure your computer to start from the CD-ROM drive. For more information about how to do this, refer to your computer's documentation or contact your computer manufacturer. Then insert your Windows XP Setup CD, and restart your computer.

1.

When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

2.

Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.

3.

Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.

4.

In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.

5.

Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.

6.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.

The option of pressing 'R' to repair did not come up. It gave you the choice of which partition to pick from?

How many partitions are on your HDD, which one is the main partition with XPon ? Slect that one and hit R for repair

Hi Robyn,

Can you please give us some more information about your system etc.

Also what is happening, where is the boot process stalling.....

Did you install any new drivers, software or anything else

It helps if we have some information about the above to have a better understanding of your issues

is any of this happening????????

"NTLDR could not be found." Your fix might be just the command "fixboot". Try it and afterwards you reboot the pc
by using the command "exit". When the pc boots again your problem might be solved.

"Blue screen during bootup or hang during bootup". This is a more sophisticated issue but probably related to drivers and/or faulty services. With the command listsvc you can enumerate all the drivers and services which are loaded on startup. Write down all the drivers and services which have state "service system" or state "service boot".

"INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" Probably your drivers and/or IDE drivers are faulty. Use the fast repair option in windows 2000 setup by booting from the windows cd. Press F6 on boot of the cd to specify your scsi drivers.

Write them down exactly with the name you see on the screen, you will need the exact service names later on.

here is a link that will help you as well http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6031733.html

Hope this helps

I bet he is using XP Pro. That don't give you a repair option.

;)

Where did you get this wrong information ? Xp Pro will give you the Repair Option like all other versions.
It will not give the repair options when the Partition is damaged!
