I have Windows XP with S2 and all other up to date stuff. I haven't had any
virus protection so I put in my '04 Norton Internet Security. I run a total
scan, got rid of some adware and other "crap" but something wasn't too right
after that. Alot of freeze ups, some things I couldn't get into, I ended up
restoring to a previous date after unloading Norton. Maybe Microsoft doesn't
like Norton? I'm sure Mircosoft has their own antivirus stuff they could
sell me, anybody know what the problem could be?

NO, as of today M/S does not have an anti-virus program it is trying to sell
you.
The problem is Norton is crap! No really the adware it removed "might" have
been tied to the programs you were trying to launch, many free programs come
with adware(that's how they make their money) once the adware is removed the
program may stop working.

If you had NIS 04 why didn't you have any virus protection?

Get yourself a real A/V program.

NOD32 is $39 that is not a bargain. You can download the free AVG version from
Grisoft for home users. It is excellent:

I didn't mention that it was a bargin! It works great and is lite on
resources.
I just read another post from someone with AVG who is infected with a virus
I geuss you get what you pay for?

Have been using Norton Anti-Virus & Internet Security 2003
with WinXP Pro before and after SP2 and never had any
problems. Have also installed this software on 3 other puters
again with no problems. Have friend using 2004 version with
none of problems you say are having. If check Symantec site,
their software is compatible with XP.

Big RED FLAG. No matter the OS, Updates/Protection should be first and foremost
after a freah install. Was this a fresh install of NIS '04, in these words, not
previously installed?

If an older version was installed, did you uninstall it first?

I run a total
You should have run the full gamut in Safe Mode starting with a full system av
scan right on down to the last spyware/adware app.
