windows xp: non responding applications, will not safely shut down error

i have recently purchased a new motherboard (asus a78x
deluxe) so i have re formatted my hard disk and re
installed windows xp. i have got all the updates via
windows update but i still have these terrible problems
windows xp takes around a minute to boot even though

i've only used 5 gig of hard disk space !
half of the time it is unstable and it wont start up

applications like games, mediaplayer, aol etc etc
windows rarely tends to log off or hybernate (just

freezes at saving your settings and i have to switch off
at the power supply which i hate doing)
windows will not shut down and says this on the screen

it says that: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

i have done everthing to sort it, ive gone through all
the programs on taskmanager and re installed all of my
hardware twice and have no idea why this is happening. my
hard drive is not running as efficiantly as it used to
even though its all formatted to ntfs and everything
performance wise is enabled. i have disabled bios caching
and memory shadowing as it also advised but nothing !

PLEASE HELP ME !

also my keyboard is set to american so i need that in
english (united kingdom) mode !
 
Did you check the ASUS web site for instructions about the
BIOS and drivers for a new mobo?
