Windows XP NEWBIE Question

Thomas Grassi

My windows XP pro pc is a member of a workgroup and when I click on my
network places and choose view workgroup computers I get this message:

Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions. A list of servers for this workgroup is not
currently available.

My user account is setup same as the administrator of the computer full
access.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Tom

Sounds like a Browser issue, the computer doesn't have a browse list
available. Is the Browser service running? This can also be caused by
firewalls blocking access to the network.

Yes my browser service is running I forgot to mention that. I am using
Microsofts firewall with Windows One Care

Any ideas?

Thanks

Look in the Event Log to see if any errors are reported and from a
command prompt issue:

net view

What happens and what is reported when you issue the command?

No errors or messages in event logs.

Ran Net View from command prompt:

C:\>net view
System error 6118 has occurred.

The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available

Hope this helps

Tom
