Is there a limit on how many PCs can be networked on a
peer-to-peer basis using Windows XP Home Edition ?

Hundreds; probably thousands; maybe tens of thousands.

XP HE does have a limit of 5 concurrent inbound connections
to its shared resources (files & printers); the limit is
based on the number of other PCs connected, not the number
of resources. XP PRO has the same kind of limit, but allows
10 instead of 5.
