I have installed a new notebook bundled with windows xp
professional that will connect to a workgroup. the ip
settings, dns, gateway, enable netbios over tcp/ip,
workgroup name are set according to the settings of other
pc's in the network that also uses windows xp. but the
notebook cannot gain access to the network. sometimes it
listed the network computers and yet it cannot access into
it. what goes wrong????? anybody can help me on this?????
Ideas?????

thank you,

sincerely,
james

i already tried that one but still doesnt. the notebook
unit can send packet to the network but cant received any.
what shall i do?????

If the IP settings are THE SAME as other computers then that would be a
problem. Each computer has to ahve a unique identifier. Add 1 to the last
number in the IP that is the highest number in the network.

I might also point out that you could have a bad NIC. I did even though it
was brand new outta da box.

Each computer has its own unique ip with the same gateway
as it should be, but then it isnt working.
