Hello,

I want to experiment with Windows XP "N" but cannot get it to activate
properly. When I first install it, it runs through on-line activation
successfully. After the successful activation, it goes to the login prompt.
When I click on the "Administrator" icon to login, I'm told I must activate
Windows. It goes through the activation process again but this time it tells
me that Windows is already activated (a true statement). Then it takes me
once again to the Administrator login. I click on the icon and the whole
process begins again...except this time it tells me I have exceeded the
activation time period.

I have tried re-installing several times and even tried telephone activation
(which activates fine but it still takes me through that infinate loop). I
cannot get beyond this to log into Windows.

Any suggestions?

Actually thier is a re-registration utility for xp by microsoft,it has been
listed
here in communities before.Basically it wipes out all info stored toward xp
registration & starts from scratch,it may help.Try search in newsgroups &
microsoft

Hi Andrew,

Thanks. I did not find such a utility reference here or on MS' web site. But
I did find a procedure for editing the registry and replacing a system file.
But it didn't work.

This is my first experience with the "N" version. The activation process is
different from a "normal" XP install. It won't allow you to log in until
activation has completed (safe mode works but you can't activate in safe
mode). There isn't a lot of information on the net about this
version...except that it is possibly the lowest selling version of Windows
ever. So far, I can see why.

Wrong again Andrew. Please go away.

Try repairing the registry entries for the DLL files used by
activation.

Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

Good luck

May I suggest that you take a sabbatical from posting and give your fingers a rest. Read the newsgroups for a few weeks to get the feel on how to answer a bit more correctly. You are not doing any favors or help for anybody

Hi Ron,

Sorry...been off-line for a couple of days. Thank you for the suggestion.
Unfortunately, it made no difference.

I almost think that since this version was created specially for the
European Union, it knows I am in the USA and decides not to work. I even
chose a European time zone during one of the several re-install attempts.

I've done quite a bit of research on the net for a problem like this but
have found a dearth of information.

Sigh...
