Windows XP: My Documents Uber Slow Opening

Hi All, have been trying to fix a problem with my computer for a few
weeks now. Its not really a big thing, but more frustrating.

The problem is whenever I open explorer and click on the My Documents
folder, it then goes away for about 20-30 seconds before finally
displaying the contents. If I click any other folder off of the main
path e.g. Program Files, Documents and Settings everything update fine
with the smallest of delays. I've also tried accessing My Docs within
a command prompt and that worked a treat with no delay either.

I've done a spot of googling and changed one of the registry settings
that relates to Networking, I'm assuming since the My Docs folder
thats easily available is actually a symbolic link in reality. I've
also disabled a sound effect that apparently is linked to opening
folders to no avail. Beyond that I've also turned off indexing,
turned off the auto search for network shares!

Now I'm hoping that someone with huge WindXP kudos can help as I'm now
stuck!

For Info spec is:
Athlon XP 2400
1 GB Corsair RAM
Western Digital 120GB HDD
GeForce 3 Ti
(other peripherals also)

Windows XP + SP1 installed and up todate as of last weekend.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well after a bit of tinkering last night got it fixed!

Solution:
- Open Explorer and click on MyDocs
- Go make cup of coffee
- On return to computer, create a new sub folder in MyDocs and name it
something like MyZips
- Move all .zip files to new folder
- Job done.

To test close your explorer and reopen click MyDocs agains and notice speed
improvement.

I'm not 100% sure that this was the only solution or only worked cause I
had done other mods e.g. disable playing of sound file, netowrk registry
hack, indexing turned off etc.

However it does now work and I'm happy. Also when I open MyZips theres no
performance problems either so must have something to do with having
multiple file types in MyDocs e.g. .mp3 .avi .mpg etc. as I've heard that
it looks at the header info of each file in turn.

Thought it would be nice to post a solution for anyone else to find if required.
