I have two routers on my network. One is DSL and one is
dial-up for backup. I have a mail server running on XP
which has two NIC's in it. Each NIC is configured with a
single gateway, one to the DSL and one to the dial-up
router. Everything seems to work OK except when the NIC
on the DSL attempts to make a DNS query using one of the
DNS servers listed in the NIC assigned to the dial-up
router. The query fails since the ISP on the dial-up
connection refuses connections except from their own users.

I found the following article:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prcc_tcp_qevr.asp

Which states: Domain Name System (DNS) configuration
settings are global, unless otherwise noted The default
settings on the DNS tab in Advanced TCP/IP Properties
dialog box are used for all adapters on the computer. It
is possible to change this default setting by entering the
DNS suffix for a particular connection in the appropriate
text box. If this is not done, for a multihomed computer,
you must carefully define options for DNS that apply to
all adapters using TCP/IP.

I guess this means I have two options: 1. Run DNS on my
local network where I can allow the machine to query or
properly configure DNS suffix's. Does anyone know what I
have to do with DNS suffix's to make this work? Thgere is
no follow-up data from this article.

MIke.
