Hi,
The last couple of months I have been having a problem
with my PC running an "always updated" windows XP Pro.
After some time (seems to be random from 1-10 hours) it
suddenly makes a very fast shutdown. It does it in an
almost orderly fashion because the sign "are you sure you
want to shutdown ... other users are logged on to the
computer" just pops up for a micro-second and an Event
(ID: 26) of this is written to the Event-log. But the shut-
down happens in less that a second and data/programs are
not safely being killed (chkdsk complains). Often there is
nothing else listed in the Event log near the time of
the "shut-down".
With my old installation I tried to run a lot of
diagnostic software but nothing seemed to help the problem.
This weekend I decided to make a completely fresh install
but I was unhappy to experience that the problem also
persists on the clean install.
In conclusion, I guess there is some hardware issue
involved? But why does Windows XP then try to make a
proper shut-down and why is there no trace of the
experienced problem in the Event log?
How can I make a more clear/accurate event log of what is
happening in order to find the error? Has anyone else
experienced similar problems?
Thanks a lot for your consideration!
