Windows XP Major Error

Hello,

My version of Windows XP has encountered a major error. I recently
installed a new anti-virus, which I have now changed because I think
it caused the error.

Basically now, anything windows related, such as the Internet
Explorer, windows media player and all the other windows facilities do
not work. They either provide an error or for example get e to the
hotmail page but doesn't allow me to actually open an e-mail, etc.

I am very concerned about this, as I can't even access the Windows
Help and Support or even Search options on my computer.

The reason my computer has gone like this is uncertain, however the
aforementioned anti-virus had told me there were some Trojans and
viruses and to delete the things it had highlighted, I did and the
next time I booted up all the errors were in place.

Would you have any advice on what to do to get everything back to
normal?

There's several ways to go,the faster of the 3,install xp cd,exit the info
page,go to run, type:cmd in cmd type:Sfc /Scannow When the graph is
thru type:CHKDSK C: /F agree to restart then type:EXIT Restart computer,
run the DOS window in Min.,sometimes the graph runs behind it.
Youre other choice, boot to xp cd,select, install xp,select, repair this
copy.Youre
other choice, instead of repair, select new copy, delete the current partition,
create one, then xp formats the hd and installs auto.If it was me,id try 1st,
then 3rd,the repair "might fix" xp,if it doesnt youre starting over.

Hi,

Thanks for your response, I have a few questions though. I tried the
1st option, but after the computer restarts and it runs in DOS then
what do you do? How do you run in min? What happened with me is that
it gave 3 options, 1 was to install, 1 to repair and the other to
exit. I wasn't too sure what to do so I tried the repair option.
However, when I tried it said I had to type in what I wanted to repair
or something like that, but after pressing the initial 'r' then
nothing else worked - it kept saying error. So I eventually exited
that too.

If I was to reinstall it though, would I be right in thinking that my
computer desktop and everything on it like documents would be deleted?

Thanks again.
