Windows XP Machine has issues connecting to Windows 2000 Server

This is referring to NT. Are you sure you are using a PDC/BDC or are you on
Active Directory?

It sounds like you have problems with DNS. Does your DC point to an
internal updatable (Not a secondary) DNS server and does the client point to
this same server?

If you are trying to attach to a domain and that is what the message is
telling you, this is where your problem resides.

The DC is a domain controller (Part of AD). Your machine is attempting to
find it, it sounds like.

If it is a Windows 2000 Active Directory Domain Controller, you have no
choice on the matter. You need a local DNS server (usually the DC) and the
DC and all clients MUST use its address for DNS, ONLY.

No ISP or any other external DNS address in any position, on any interface
(Including dial up)
