I am having a problem with Windows XP. When I log in to my Windows XP Pro
laptop, it usually takes over 2 minutes to log in to the computer. I have
found that the workstation service may be the problem. When I disable this
service, the laptop logs on fast. Start up is not a problem - just when I log
on to the laptop. Anyone run into this situation? This laptop logs in to a
W2k domain. There are 6 of these laptops that have this problem. The other
80 computers do not have this lengthy login time. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Check DNS settings on the slow computers - they should be set up to use only
your domain's DNS server to resolve names.

Richard,

Thanks for the reply! I have manually set a static IP address along with
our DNS settings and received the same result. Is there anything else I can
check?

So the DNS on the laptop(s) is set to look only at the domain DNS? Is that
correct?

Do they have anything else in common that the other computers don't?

Have you checked an IPCONFIG /ALL printout from the laptop(s) versus a
desktop?

Just curious if you found anything out here. Same thing happend to me
this morning. A single XP laptop taking about 2 minutes to log onto
the 2k domain. I'm going down the route of what updates might have
happened to it yesterday. I know NAV was updated yesterday but I
havn't been able to find anything out about it. This laptop also has
Sony Vio live update on it. Do we have NAV or Sony Vio in common?
