We have some PCs with Windows XP installed on them. We
got the Blaster worm and can't update them because
Microsoft site says we have invalid product keys. We have
the licensed Windows CD's and the product keys sitting in
a box here but for some reason the guy that installed
them for us used some other kind of Windows XP - from
a "volume license" or a "developer license" or something.

Anyway is there any way of getting the correct product
key into Windows Xp without installing it all over again?

thanks.

You need to perform a repair install using your
new Windows XP "full version" CD and Product Key:

Be careful not to jump to conclusions about your installer person. If
you bought an OEM copy of XP, then the product key as installed may be
different from the one on your CD case. (This is true of Dell for
example.)

Windows Update should accept the key even though it doesn't match your
COA sticker or CD case. However, there are cases where certain keys have
been declared by Microsoft to have been compromised by pirates and these
keys are no longer any good, even though your copies may not be pirated.

OTOH, you may be dealing with a crook. :-) At any rate, now you know how
to change the Product Key.
