I just bought and installed WinXP Pro on a friend's computer, and it got to the screen where it mentions the default and Administrator user accounts, and what password you want to use. She didn't want a password, so I just clicked OK and left the fields blank. However, once I got to the login screen, the user says default but it requires a password. I have tried just hitting OK with nothing in the field, but it doesn't work. How can I find what the password should be? I also have been able to try to login with the Administrator account, but it also requires a password I don't have. What do I do?

Boot from the XP CD and start over. As part of setup, you'll be offered the opportunity to format the hard disk. Pay attention to what you're doing. The only account that is setup by default is the Administrator account. And XP Pro requests that you enter a password, if desired, for this account. If you leave it blank, then it will be blank. If not, remember what you entered.

With that said, it is a good idea to create at least one additional account. The Administrator account may your only fall back, in case of major problems.

The XP CD should be bootable. You'll have to consult the computer's manual for instructions on how to set it to boot from CD first.
