Windows XP installation

I installed xp successfully and then looked for updates on
the web. After the security updates, 14 of them, were
downloaded my problems started

The system boots up to the xp start screen with three user
identities on it. When I click to load any of the
identities a dialogue box come up saying that NT authority
\system is restarting windows because the RPC Remote
Proceedure Call Service terminated unexpectedly. It re
boots after 60 seconds and the same thing happens
repeatedly. Switching off dosen't cure it, the same
dialogue box returns and I can't get past it.

Any good ideas would be welcome
