I had a computer given to me. The system was bogged down and had almost no
memory left. I was given a Windows XP Home Edition 2002 disc that has Service
Pack 2 with the computer. I tried to reinstall Windows on the computer with
the disc and the install goes fine until the computer reboots to complete the
setup. It freezes when it reboots on the Windows XP screen. I've tried it
again several times and it freezes in the same place. I do not know what to
do from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

"Reboots to complete the setup"... It does this - technically - several
times. You would need to be much more specific about the point where it
reboots as well as likely details about the system itself might help.

My suggestion - in this case - is to figure out what hard drive manufacturer
made the hard disk drive in the system. Visit their web page, support and
downloads section, and download a bootable version of their diagnostics
utility. Us it to do a full wipe (zero write) on the hard disk drive (since
you say you have the Windows XP installation CD and I would guess - the
product key - and this was your intention anyway - this should not be a
problem.) Once you have wiped the hard disk drive - use the same bootable
diagnostics utility to run a full batch of tests on the system drive - to be
sure it is okay.

Once you have verified the hard disk drive is okay, you should probably test
the memory. An easy way to do this:

Then follow this for a clean install:
